![]() ![]() For volumes that use more than 65%, do not use thin provisioning as it may have performance impact and in case of space usage spikes, you may run out of space. For volumes that use more than 35%, avoid using provisioning as it may have performance impact. If your vCenter or Hyper-V manager does not have the Dell EQL API (especially for Hyper-V manager), do not use EQL thin provisioning as to avoid over provisioning of storage. This will prevent other volumes or functions like snapshots from using that "unreserved free" space. Your min reserve should be MORE than the in use. ![]() I do see some config issues that you may want to take note. ![]() As only 3.45TB is used, Unreserved space of 521 GB means that 521 GB can be shared with other volumes. You have a 4 TB thin provisioned volume.this means hyper-V or VMware vCenter would see a 4 TB data store. ![]() The few dangers is the snapshot reserve (smart snapshots), replication reserve & EQL thin provisioning.as if not used carefully, can lead to the storage running out of space and/or VMs freezing (thin provisioning out of space). It is relatively easy to increase volume size, but like most storage, impossible to decrease the volume size. The Dell EQL is slightly less complicated than most SANs as they are a single RAID LUN appliance where all users have to do is attach via iSCSI to the hyper-visor and then create EQL volumes which will appear as Data stores in the Hyper-visor. This is may not be under the purview of Dell support as this is usually done by the Dell vendor or customer. What the SAN says doesn't matter, as long as the SAN itself doesn't run out of space. If you need more free space for a VM, you need to be looking at what free space Windows sees. The host may report that the volume is full, while the SAN reports significant empty space. The amount of space in use reported by the SAN and the Windows host will usually differ. They can walk you through everything and answer all of your questions in real-time. Is the array under support from Dell? If it is, I would give support a call. ![]()
